Subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) provides many advantages, but it also comes with some disadvantages, which can be avoided.
Maintenance Costs
Regular maintenance, including flushing lines and replacing driplines and clogged emitters, adds to long-term expenses.
Emitter and dripline quality is the key in avoiding high maintenance costs in SDI.
A low-quality dripline, produced with inferior raw materials, is more likely to face several problems when installed subsurface. Therefore, it is important to use high quality raw materials during the dripline production.
Most importantly, if the emitters are not designed correctly and are not produced with the proper materials, clogging will be inevitable. A flawless designed emitter will provide high turbulent flow and its labyrinth will remain clog-free.
Moreover, PC emitters with Anti-Siphon (AS) function, are designed to prevent suction of dirt and impurities into the emitter when installed subsurface.
